Detroit, MI - Doug Farr, a Detroit native and founder of the Chicago-based architecture and planning firm Farr Associates will be a featured presenter at the Creative Cities Summit Oct. 13-15, 2008 in Detroit.
“Doug is a visionary when it comes to creating sustainable urban neighborhoods,” said Peter Kagayama, Co-Director for the Creative Cities Summit 2.0. “In his book Sustainable Urbanism he addresses traditional urban development along with his concept of “high performance” buildings and infrastructure. This will be an exciting conversation for our attendees.”
According to Farr, “Our sustainable design comes from clients committed to innovation and a shared vision for the promise of our future.” In addition to his work as an architect, author and designer, Farr also chaired the development of the LEED-Neighborhood Development designation program (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). LEED-ND’s aim is to spur development that offers mixed-use, pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods that are easy on the environment. Learn more about Farr and his work at www.farside.com.
The Creative Cities Summit 2.0 chose Detroit because, like many industrial cities, it is working to evolve into a high tech, futuristic, entrepreneurial center of excellence that embraces knowledge, talent and creativity. Participants will include architects, designers, urban planners, civic leaders, entrepreneurs, artists, students, educators and community leaders sharing their experiences, projects, successes and failures as they re-imagine and rethink cities.
