Organizers for Creative Cities Summit 2.0, the second International Creative Cities Summit to be held October 12-15 in Detroit, will host an environmentally-friendly conference including keeping track of the conference's carbon footprint and committing to following best sustainability practices.
"Being thoughtful and proactive stewards of the environment is integral to Creative Cities Summit 2.0's overall mission," said Peter Kageyama, Co-Director of Creative Cities Summit 2.0. "As part of our effort we have appointed "Green Guru" Laura Rauwerda of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) to help us meet this commitment and are collaborating with vendors including the Marriott Renaissance Center to minimize our carbon footprint."
Kageyama added that organizers are integrating the use of carbon footprint calculators into all aspects of the conference and plan to donate any carbon savings to a worthwhile non-profit organization. "We are looking forward to hosting a stellar international conference and helping the environment at the same time by passing on our carbon savings to a cause that is in keeping with the creative cities movement and our commitment to help foster sustainable communities," said Kageyama.
Creative Cities Summit 2.0 is a next-generation look at how communities around the world are integrating innovation, social entrepreneurship, sustainability, arts & culture and business to make vibrant economies.
